More than $9 billion in capital works projects will go ahead in South Australia, in spite of the impact of the global economic crisis on the State's Budget.
However, some initiatives will be completed later to allow the cost of the projects to be spread across a broader time frame.
Treasurer Kevin Foley has published the Mid Year Budget Review setting out in detail the impact the financial crisis has had on the State's Budget since it was handed down on 5 June.
The Treasurer says the first priority is to guarantee the key infrastructure projects - the Adelaide desalination plant, the super schools and the Marjorie Jackson Nelson Hospital.
The Adelaide desalination plant will be completed one year ahead of the original schedule, and when completed will drought-proof the city by delivering 25% of Adelaide's water needs by the end of 2010.
